I had cruised through Croatia, exploring the coast, waterfalls, and rocky outcrops that has rendered this country so spectacular.

I had skipped up into Italy to explore the Dolomites, investigating numerous areas within this magnificent region.

Now it was time for Slovenia.

Although not originally part of my trip itinerary, I discovered that it was faster to drive through Austria and Slovenia than to retrace my steps back across the mountainous terrain of northeast Italy. I also realized that there was a picturesque town named Bled (pronounced similar to blate) hosting some incredible historical and natural sights.

Of course I had to stop and check out what all the fuss was about.

Bled turned out to be a pretty cool place! It was not “wild” in the sense of isolation and unhindered nature, but it was a space surrounded by natural beauty – mountains, woods, lakes, and much more. Lake Bled is the star of the show, drawing curious travelers to familiarize themselves with the alluring blend of the outdoor world and human history.

It was a morning well-spent. Perhaps I’ll have to return? 🙂
