Thoughts & Things
10 Years Later…
It’s hard to believe that ten years ago this month, I had the tiniest inkling of an idea to visit all of the National Parks in the lower 48 states. Here’s a snapshot from that very first post on this blog:
What started as a slightly crazy idea turned into one of the most incredible and memorable adventures of my life. It’s something I still reflect on often, and it truly became an integral part of shaping who I was as a young adult.
And as you might recall, after I rolled into that final park (Cuyahoga), I wasn’t ready to stop exploring.
The adventures have continued.

Since then, I’ve:
-
Visited 31 state parks
-
Jet set to 21 different countries
-
Earned a PhD in science education with a focus on outdoor learning
-
Dedicated my career to helping more people (aka students) get outside
Some days, when I’m deep in the routine of work and general adulting, I look back with a lot of nostalgia on those days cruising around the country and falling in love with the national protected lands that showcase the incredible diversity of the United States.

Other days, especially when it’s wet and cold, I’m pretty grateful to have a house with indoor plumbing.
Clarence and I made some wonderful memories together, and I’m happy to report that he’s now on his third owner. All three have been single women who love traipsing around natural areas.

Would I do my parks trip again?
In a heartbeat.
Are there more fun-filled adventures ahead?
You bet.
Stay tuned…
